Seekers x Sight Ceramics for Melbourne Design Week

March 23, 2022

Seekers to exhibit Sight Ceramics’ range of tactile homewares that support the visually impaired for Melbourne Design Week (17 to 27 March).

Melbourne Design Week (MDW) is here. From now, right through to 27 March, the annual program will celebrate all things design with talks, tours, exhibitions, launches, installations and workshops across Australia’s design capital.

This year, Seekers is honoured to be exhibiting for social enterprise Sight Ceramics. A selection of pieces will be shown in our store throughout MDW 2022, allowing our community to explore a world of handmade textured ceramics that support the visually impaired locally in Australia as well as globally.

Sight Ceramics’ functional ceramics aim to raise awareness about visual impairment. All proceeds are donated equally between two not-for-profit organisations; Sight for All and Next Sense. Launched in 2019 by Sydney ceramicist Rukaiya, the design and creation of textured ceramics aims to celebrate the various ways to connect with our environment through our tactile sensation.

The idea of Sight Ceramics was shaped by Rukaiya’s experience volunteering at NextSense (previously known as the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children). Here, she witnessed the difference NextSense makes in the lives of visually impaired children and the importance of textures for the visually impaired in understanding and connecting with the world around them.

All exhibiting items are available for purchase online at: sightceramics.com

MDW is an initiative of the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria, and delivered by the NGV.
