SEEKERS IMPACTS

At Seekers, impact isn't a campaign – it's a practice. Seekers Impacts is our ongoing commitment to the communities we're part of and the environment we share. Through everything we do – from how we source and stock frames, to how we power our practice and support our community – we work to close the gap on optical waste, make quality eyewear more accessible, and direct resources toward causes our clients care about.

Circular Eyewear

The optical industry generates significant waste. Frames are discarded when prescriptions change. Contact lens packaging accumulates. Lenses that could be recut are replaced without thought. We think there's a better way.

Circular Eyewear is our framework for keeping eyewear in use for as long as possible – and ensuring that when it does reach the end of its life, it goes somewhere meaningful.

  • Relens: When your prescription changes, your frames don't have to. Bring in your preloved frames, have them refit with new lenses, and receive 20% off. Good frames are worth keeping.
  • Refurbish: Worn hinges, tired finishes, bent temples – our team can often bring damaged frames back to life. Before you consider replacing them, let us take a look to see if we can refurbish in our workshop.
  • Donate: Single vision spectacles you no longer need can go to someone who does. We partner with Lions Recycle for Sight to redistribute donated frames to people in need. In return, we'll give you $20 off your next pair of frames at Seekers.
  • Recycle: Not every frame can be repaired or reused – but none of them need to become landfill. Drop off your old spectacles and sunglasses and we'll recycle them through Spexcycle, where they are processed and made into new frames.

Contact Lens Recycling

Contact lenses and their packaging are notoriously difficult to recycle through standard channels – so our contact lens recycling program makes it easy. Pick up a recycling pouch from our Gertrude Street showroom, fill it at home, and return it to Seekers for recycling through TerraCycle.

Your Old Frames Get a Second Life

We partner with Spexcycle, Australia’s circular eyewear program, to tackle the mountain of optical waste most people don’t realise exists. Objekt Eyewear is the tangible result of this closed-loop recycling partnership, and handcrafted in Australia from recycled eyewear donated by optical practices across the country, including Seekers.

Seekers Supports

Good eyecare sits within a broader web of community wellbeing – and we think independent businesses have a responsibility to contribute to that.

Since 2020, Seekers has made a $1,000 donation each quarter to a charity selected by our clients – we compile a shortlist of three causes, and when it's time for you to collect your glasses, you're invited to select the charity that resonates with you the most. The charity with the most votes receives the donation.

Past recipients include The Australian College of Optometry, HoMie, Royal Flying Doctor Service, the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service, and The Wilderness Society. A book outlining all the previous charities and what they stand for, is available to browse at the Seekers showroom.

You can keep up to date with our quarterly Seekers Supports donations by following us on Instagram and Facebook, or signing up to our monthly 'Keen Eye' newsletter at the bottom of this page.

If there's a cause you'd like us to consider, we'd love to hear about it. Get in touch via email or speak to us instore.

Our Broader Sustainability Practice

You’ll hear us reference our Circular Eyewear and Seekers Supports programs, but our commitment to sustainability also runs through the everyday operation of our practice.

We run on 100% green energy through Red Energy and bank with fellow B Corp, Bank Australia. Our on-site lab filters and recycles water used in the lens edging process, reducing microplastic pollution. We source exclusively from suppliers using recycled, biodegradable, and non-toxic materials, and we use FSA-certified cardboard bags throughout our practice.

These aren't initiatives we announce – they're simply how we choose to operate.

Seekers Impacts sits alongside our B Corp certification – independent verification that our commitments meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance. Seekers is the first and only Certified B Corp optometrist in Australia. Learn more.
